Divers is another name by which loons are called, probably because they are quite adept at diving into the water. There are several types of loons, the one people are most familiar with is the Common loon, pictured here in my digital painting. It is often seen in cottage country around lakes and other open bodies of water. The yellow-billed loon can be mistaken for the Common loon but unlike the Common loon, the Yellow-billed loon has a yellow beak the slightly curves upward. Loons are quite large and have a distinctive long body with a slender head which makes them unmistakable in the water.
